It's my firm belief that internal motivation and class collaboration are at the heart of a positive and life-long language learning program, and I feel my teaching reflects that. My current resume is available for download here, and further information is below.

     -Testimonials

From Students: selected comments (translated from the Korean- original available) from my most recent student feedback reports, Fall 2007. Cumulative feedback score was 96/100- the Korean version is available for download here.

  • The class was a little difficult because it was in English only, but the professor's teaching style and passion were amazing. I am a little bit lacking in English ability, but I could follow this class because of his leadership. The teaching style encouraged students’ participation, so it was the best class I had this semester.
  • I think he is the best, because his attitude towards the lecture, and his passionate teaching is the greatest I have ever seen at SKKU.
  • I want Joshua Davies to be a full professor at SKKU forever.
  • It was my best class ever. I love Joshua.
  • I want to create more classes for Joshua like English Writing, Presentation, and Conversation that are required every semester because his lectures are really amazing and I learned so much. I highly recommend his classes.
  • Taking Joshua’s class was the best choice I made this semester. This is the best class. He is humorous, and passionate. He is really the best.
  • I was really satisfied by his passionate teaching and thorough preparation. A lot of the time the material he used was created by him and it was very impressive. He tried to give feedback daily and that was tremendously effective for his students including me. His tests were extremely fair and accurate.
  • This is one of the best classes I will ever be able to take in my whole life, Joshua is a wonderful teacher. I can't express with words how devoted he is to the class and how that makes everyone in his class devoted as well. I strongly hope to have opportunities to take his classes again.

From Teachers:

  • From the time he walked in the door, Joshua has made himself an indispensable source of information concerning teaching methods, innovative ideas and the latest applications of technology to the classroom and workplace.  We cannot say enough about his value to our office. ~ Craig Service, Head Teacher, SKKU

     -Online Collaboration

In many language programs time spent in class each week is overshadowed by time outside. This discrepancy creates difficulties continuing positive in-class interactive environments beyond school walls, where learners are too frequently on their own. Web-based technology can provide solutions to overcome differences between the in and out of class experience.
Unfortunately, such digital remedies often require a steep learning curve on the part of teachers and students, as well as time-consuming resource management. A lot of what my research and presentations focus on is finding ways to overcome these difficulties using easy, free, and widely available technologies. Shown below is my current and most successful exploration into this, using the Ning social networking platform to largely recreate the interactions of the physical classroom, and even move beyond them.
I have made two networks available for public viewing:
  • The first network, available here, is from my presentation (public speaking) classes in the fall of 2007. Feel free to have a look around at the students' work and conversations.
  • The second, available here,  is from my writing class in the spring of 2008 and is of particular interest as it is a shared network between my classes as well as those of Kriss Lange in Japan. Together our students collaborated on a number of projects and provided extensive positive feedback.

My latests website- based on social collaboration centered around a single text is also built with Ning and can be visited at speechmadesimple.com. To learn how you can collaborate using the Ning platform please visit here.
